Food Science is the study of all the technical aspects of food. It focuses on harvesting through processing and consumption. It is classified as a life science and is usually separate from the field of nutrition.
Food Scientist:
- Make sure consumer food is safe
- Both from microbe and viruses that could make you sick
- As well as from contaminants and chemicals
- Design new products
- Research all things food
- Monitor quality assurance and quality control programs
- Create healthier food
- Draw from a number of disciplines including: chemistry, biology, microbiology, engineering
- Develop innovative and agronomical packaging
- Participate in the largest manufacturing industry in the United States
